A Startup Fest for emerging businesses was organized in collaboration with IIT Delhi Tryst 2023 to promote entrepreneurship and new business models. The event was held over three days from 4 – 6 March 2023 at the institute’s campus.
Among the many startups that had set up camp, ‘Sehdrishti’, a VR-based psychological therapy model was a major attraction owing to the remarkable potential of its practical application. Sehdrishti is a startup in medical technology with a focus on the treatment of individuals with certain psychological disorders.
With Siddhant Bansal as the Technical Executive, the Operations are overseen by Ashwani and Pranshuman Singh. Jae Hyun Kim and Priyankshu Mishra handle the Research & Innovation of Sehdrishti.
Centered around the motto of ‘Enriching Lives through Technological Innovation’, Sehdrishti aims to help treat and alleviate symptoms of individuals with numerous phobias and psychological disorders. Some common phobias that this model addresses include glossophobia and claustrophobia. Individuals with glossophobia find it challenging to participate in public speaking due to a number of fears. Similarly, claustrophobic individuals fear enclosed spaces such as small rooms, vehicles, crowded spaces, and so on.
There are several social illnesses and phobias that affect people across all age groups. Every day, millions of people across the globe are diagnosed with one or more mental illnesses. These range in varied intensities, symptoms, triggers, fears, discomfort, lapses in memory and judgment, etc.
claustrophobia. Individuals with glossophobia find it challenging to participate in public speaking due to a number of fears. Similarly, claustrophobic individuals fear enclosed spaces such as small rooms, vehicles, crowded spaces, and so on.
As opposed to traditional therapy which may not always translate well into real-world scenarios, Sehdrishti follows a simulation-based approach. The VR simulations improve the efficiency and accuracy of cognitive behavioral therapy (the sole treatment for anxiety disorders and phobias). Under the guidance of the doctor, the patient is gradually exposed to the said stimuli. This model renders simulated scenarios in VR for the patient, whose responses and vitals are monitored throughout the therapy session. Sehdrishti boasts a marked increase in recovery rate, ease in performing behavioral exercises, possibility to get stimulus to situations that are difficult to recreate in real life.
Over the 3-day long camp, Sehdrishti managed to attract the attention of between 300-400 participants who were impressed with the business model and the intent behind the technology. Two scenarios – for stage fright and claustrophobia were played out to each participant, and their reactions were recorded to determine the efficacy of the model.
All VR simulations to be played on the VR experience were modeled and developed by SKETS 3D team. The 3D team was also present at the camp for all three days to provide technical assistance with the VR equipment and simulations.
With enthusiastic participation from visitors, college professors, and students, Sehdrishti received a lot of encouraging and favorable feedback. In fact, several participants were curious about the subscription to the service. A poll was also held for the event where a considerable number of visitors voted for Sehdrishti.
Encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive feedback, Sanjeevani MedTech looks forward to growing the technology further and making it more accessible for those in need of therapeutic assistance.
